Collection / collection instance - frame offset

It would be really nice to have the option to adjust one value to offset all the keyframes of all the objects in a collection or a specific instance of that collection.

I understand that there might be some complexities with objects that reside in multiple collections so maybe only offsetting the animation in the instances might be a better solution.

From what i have heard this might be already possible with armatures but for a good portion of the users that are not doing any character animation work this is a complex concept and i have myself not figured out how to do this.

The feature could reside in the right click menu when you hover over a collection in the outliner or if implemented for instances only it could reside in the object settings for the empty.

An additional feature could be to also have the possibility to adjust the playback speed of the keyframes in the instance so you can adjust the duration of the instance as well.

Have a play in the Dopesheet editor. You can select, grab and scale keyframes for multiple objects at once.

@ammusionist:

Hi there thnx for you reply, this works indeed when duplicating the objects.

But lets say i made an animation with 5 boxes that i scale to represent a graph or something. I instance this 20 times in scene. Now i can change the animation in the collection and it will update all the instances.

But when i want to the animation in the different instances to start at different moments i would have to duplicate the objects and change the animation in all 20 * 5 duplicated objects while adjusting for the start frame offset.

The feature i am requesting is a solution for that problem.

Or am i misunderstanding some features?

The dopesheet might be a place to add this feature, maybe a special start keyframe for instances?

i made and example video to explain the problem: streamable.com/4zd5e

@al.mijn.email: Thank for the Video. It makes sense. It looks like Blander is making an instance of the animation instead of giving each object its own local copy. I'm away from my computer at the moment. I'll have a look tonight. It may be a bug.

@ammusionist: Hi the problem is not the instancing of the collections, i want to instance the objects. The feature request is the possibility to adjust when the animation of an instance starts.

@al.mijn.email: There's something weird going on in 2.8 animation. I can do this fine in 2.79 dopesheet, but 2.8 is giving some odd results. I'll get the latest and see if I can pin down the problem.

Did you ever find a solution for this? Run into a similar thing myself today.
