Mode/Workspace specific keybindings

Personal:

In blender there is many different keybindings, even thought need is less now in 2.8x but still it makes working more streamline. I personally use a Ergodox as my keyboard and I have done a lot of custom layers just for blender (Sculpting, modelling, painting, composition) to help keep it so I can use 90% of time graphics tablet as my mouse.

Problem

But as I started to talk with my friend about this, he don't have Ergodox and can't really flash new firmware to his keyboard for all shortcuts layered to different modes. And there is a ton shortcuts what would be nice to multiple different keymaps based on what mode/workspace Blender is. As Blender shortcuts are really good at the moment but there is many shortcuts that I do is that I move them based on layer, for example Alt Q (Pie Views Menu) is on modelling layer for me in H position, I use it frequently, but in Sculpting I use far less frequently and have moved it to thumb cluster and use W (Sculpt pie) in H. This would also help people with Wacom Express Key remote, that has limited amount keys. In more specialized software that doesn't matter but in Blender that remote would need 20 different keys to handle all modes.

Possible solution

Workspace specific keybindings, you could right click on workspace and there would be button "Workspace Keybindings" and it would open default keybindings configuration, and you could customize it as needed. It would save keybindings in new keybinding file, name would be taken from workspace name, ex. "Sculpting". And each time user changes to that workspace that keybinding would be loaded in.

Possible problem

As I said it would be workspace specific, there could be problems with that user expects it to work based on mode. Personally I don't know how long it takes to load whole new keymap (fraction of second?) if it's not too slow then this implementation could also be implemented to mode switching. But then there needs to keep so it's fast enough.

ps, I tried to look plugins but didn't found anything.

Actualy I have same idea. When you modeling you use 3dview 90% of time, but if you make unwrap, you use 2d and 3d view. But you don't need different type sellection on unwraping and I prefer use C key like mark seams(cut), and W like clear seams(weld). Howawer I cant because 3d view alredy have C-circle selection and W-tweak selection. Separate hotkeys betwen workspaces briliant idea.

Key bindings already work per editor type and somewhat per-sub-mode per editor type. There is nothing special about workspaces. They are just pre-arranged layouts of different editor types.

If you want W to open the visibility pie menu in sculpt mode you do not have to do that in your keyboard software. You can do it directly in Blender.

* @thinsoldier * That's only for some, for example 3D view generic keybindings don't have mode specific keybindings. And those are what I use basically most of time.
