Action Slot System Optionable
While I do see the usefulness of 4.4.0's new action slot system, I personally am not a fan of it and would wholeheartedly suggest that it be made optional.
In my experience, having been working on a project and just recently brought it into 4.4.0 from 4.3.1, the addition of the Action Slot system has done nothing but cause delays and issues. Having my character's old retroactively tied to a "Legacy Slot" and being forced to make a new one for any future actions, with it being cumbersome to migrate old actions into a new action slot, it's just all a big obstacle.
If we could enable the Action Slot system as needed, and leave it off otherwise, I can safely say that there would be less issues overall.

Instead of ignoring the UX issue by making Slots optional and still leave users of Action Slots with what you describe as a "cumbersome" workflow, wouldn't it be better to focus on making that process better and seamless to migrate?
Action Slots are not just a new feature but a fundamental part of the new animation system. Ideally, "not using Action Slots" would be as simple as using a single slot per action, same workflow and output.
I can just second what Pablo said, making that system optional is... not an option.
However the way it is designed, you should be able to just keep animating as you were in 4.3 completely ignoring slots. So if you could let us know what issues you are running into with your workflow that would be appreciated.
