Materials to collections

Hi all, I hope to be writing in the right place (my first post here). It was wondering if it could be useful to bind materials to collections and not only to the objects inside it. Try to explain better: I often import files from other softwares for architectural visualization and I create collections for all the walls, all the windows, all the fences... It would be great to add material to the collection creating an override for all the objects inside.
