Background Images 2.8

Please bring back Background Images from 2.7x to 2.8. It doesn't annoy anybody. And it doesn't clutter up the scene as a workflow using images as planes would. So pls.

I believe the new image empties are being coded so they respond to a single view now.

You're right. Image empties are being updated to fulfill the job of background image, bringing their own cool features such as on the fly modification, 3-dimentionnal positioning, etc... Once finished, they will be way more efficient and practical than the old background images.

@ammusionist: Oh I see, then it's completely fine.

It does annoy any developer to maintain a functionality through versions (compatibility, bugfixes, etc).

The thing is that background images are not that practical, especially compared to the image empties. We just need the devs to finish the planned reworks on them to fulfill the background images exclusive behaviors. And we will end up with an even more efficient and powerfull tool than before.

@loic.dautry: when using images as planes, they clutter up the scene, and I find that really annoying. In school, that's one thing I found really annoying with Maya. In Blender it was great. But since Image empties have the same functionality (and more) as the 2.7x Background Images, it's totally fine. I didn't know that.
