Retain selection despite Viewport Visibility state
Currently, if the object’s viewport visibility is turned off, we lose the selection, so you have to reselect the object each time you want to tweak it.
Can we preserve the selection?

hidden things cannot be selected. That is one core design rule of Blender that we cannot simply change :/
But why couldn't it be changed? Can there be discussions about this?
Edit:
I'm pushing this because this issue has bugged me for a while, and once in a while I face a problem that is caused by it, and I rarely think (or have the time available on the spot) to make a request here. So I started a listing of issues that stem from this design rule, hoping that one day it could be discussed and addressed in any way.
I guess it could be today, so I just posted my notes so far, I'd be glad if it could be looked at: Blender’s Hidden Objects: Breaking Down the Barriers - HackMD
For general selection state it's unlikely to be changed. For one, hidden objects cannot be deselected by the user unless they select something else. Also it could be very unexpected if you run an operation only to modify data you cannot see. I foresee many UX issues with that.
That said, working with animated visibility is definitely an issue but I think there are ways to improve that without changing such a code design rule of Blender
can the selection be restored when the object is visible again?
