Animation Workflow Comparison Blender/Maya/Primo
Hello,
Not sure if everyone has seen this yet, and I know someone is working on the blender animation for 2021, but this guy has some good points I hope can be taken into consideration!
Even though a lot of the things he suggested you can edit in Blender. And I know, for some reason, suggestions for blender animation based on any other software sounds like blasphemy to some of the Blender Community. But a lot of these things are UI improvements that make our jobs easier. Like the ease of resizing the Gizmo, or selectability of curves in the graph editor. And the Lattice tool!!!!
But hope whoever has the monumental task to work on the animation features of blender can take their time and make it amazing!

I'm an ex-Maya animator who wants Blender to be the best animation software available. If you can get animators on board then we bring a LOT of enthusiasm with us.
Please Blender Institute, pay attention to what this guy has to say, especially about the Graph Editor. A good animator will work half of their time in the graph editor, and Maya's graph editor was the best part about Maya (the rest of it is a dog).
Focusing your energy for changes in 2.9 will be well spent developing this area of animation (and its work flow) further, and the best go-to as to how to do this is right here with this video.
Treat this like the information gold that it is.
I'm totally agree with Sir Wade video, I have worked and teach Maya for almost 18 years, I know 3DMax since it was called "3D Studio" (Think it has Architects in mind not animators), I know Softimage (The excellent program that Autodesk bought it and then decide to decided to bury and I know Blender Blender since 2.3 where it big limitation was the unfriendly interface (personal opinion of someone that did a monograph on interfaces). Now the new interface and Tools since 2.8 are great!
Most of the tutorials on the web for Blender are aimed to modeling, the keys layout in Blender has more to do with Modeling that character animation. The good news: Blender is evolving so fast that will change the way that deals with character animation. Your video will be heard. Competition is good, MAYA is a giant old dinosaur, BLENDER is a meteorite in fire furrowing the sky of animation.
Yeah it's nice to have feedback from people who are working in studios.
Yes, it's a very interesting video, I know that we don't have to compare software, but I think that Blender is already doing something similar with the whole Sculpt theme, and in animation there is a lack of development thinking in studios where they are already starting to create shows with Blender.
It would be great to take into consideration some of the things from animators who have experience in productions and what they see would be good to add or improve.
Blender is slowly eating the ground from the "big guys" and this is fantastic.
* @Juan Gabriel * What is the Sculpt thing you mentioned?
But yes, studios and artists can always make what they have work. But this is a place to make recommendations for improvement right? I have made different programs work from Motionbuilder, to Blender, and even Maya. Every program you have to make work. But you don't really have a chance to communicate with the developers of a program like you do Blender. Which is my favorite part of Blender.
Isn't this benefit of the open source community to be able to communicate with developers and see if there are better ways to approach things?
And as far as consideration from animators who have experience in production, I've had 9 years experience working on TV shows, games, VFX movies, Cinematics and Commercials. This guy worked at Dreamworks for 2 years. I've worked with a handful of people who worked on Next Gen at Tangent Studios. And at least 3 other I worked with in TV 4 years ago who got into Blender. All of which have the same feelings about everything Sir Wade brought up.
Again, I know the development team for the Blender animation tools seem super small, so I would never expect most of these things to be worked on any time soon. And I assume anyone working on those tools probably already saw the video, But just wanted more people in this community who don't actually animate or talk to animators to know some basic frustrations we have with animation in general. Not just Blender honestly.
* @yellowjoker * What I mean by Sculpt is the tools that Pablo Dobarro has developed that are very similar to how Zbrush works, or that's the impression I have.
Totally according to everything you say I also have some years of experience in movies and TV series, it's early to ask for all the improvements that are needed to Blender but it's very good his new policy of LTS versions and that feedback that he is going to have from many studios that are moving to Blender. I think that in a not very distant future it will evolve a lot in this aspect.
great movie series he had good comments on hand animations
