Improved Quick Favorites / Custom Menu Editor

Summary:

Replace or enhance "Quick Favorites" with an equally fast to use but much more flexible and extendable solution which features more than just one list.

In more Detail:

A good way of speeding up work on individual workflows is to make a program more customizable and accessible for individual users. Blender currently offers the Quick Favorites Menu, which is cool. Beyond that you currently either need an Add-On from the Blendermarket, use a predefined radial menu that is better or worse suited for your needs or might even contain lots of stuff you'd rather have filled with different options. You can get your hands dirty in Python (if you understand how to use it good enough and have the time to code your custom menu). Lastly, of course, just can use the currently existing Quick Favorites menu.

I'd imagine seeing something easier and faster to use integrated into Blender. Kind of a custom Quick Menu Editor that can be filled on the fly like the Quick Menu currently available.

I'd propose having a custom editor in the Add-Ons list where you can add extra menues for as many tasks as you need: Image The Menues can be standard lists or radials. They can be named individually, saved and the order of the added commands edited in the Options by drag and drop. In the case of radial menues the first item in the list could be north position and then go around the eight free slots clockwise. Every Item added gets added to the next slot. Empty slots don't appear in the menu. Shortcuts can be added of course, otherwise it makes no sense.

Image Instead of adding to the quick favorite menu you could then instead select which menu to add the current command to.

This is a first proposal and it can probably be improved upon. It shows what could be a really nice way of easily creating your own custom menues instead of having to code something when you actually want to create or try something fast.

Bonus Idea: When Saving a menu you get a complete Python Code file that you can edit yourself if needed or simply load or paste anywhere else.

I would love a way to highlight a few lines of python operations and right-click add to quick-favorites, kinda like in Maya where you can drag commands onto your shelf to create a button for frequent, custom operations.

* @jon * Yes, that could actually be a nice addition ... A button saying "show code" which opens a texteditor where you can input your script. Alternatively (since this isn't quite the Blender way) it could also just open the whole script in the text window and jump right to the place where you want the code snippet to be placed.

Oh Damn! I didn't know there already was a proposal for this from January. developer.blender.org/T73178

Maybe it gets into GSoC. :D

Being able to edit Quick Favorites order would be great. Creating submenus would be a plus. Addind separators... It's crazy helpful as is, it can be so much more. Tried doing an addon to change the order but wasnt successful.

* @david.rafael95 * This proposal has roughly 50% of it's roots in Modo's Menue editor, actually. In Modo 13 you have a "Workbench" Menu that is easily accessed through an icon in the tool shelf. There you can just click one button and then a tool to add it to the menu: IMG

The menu can be edited through Modo's own menu editor. The editor itself is terribly, terribly convoluted and easy to mess things up. It has EVERY menu and button in a long list and accidently changing something wrong makes it super hard to find or change back again.

Blender needs something faster to start with. A fully dedicated menu editor as a separate thing would be really awesome, too.

Any update about this after 2.5 years? Does "Development Status: Open" mean that they are working on it? The quick favorites menu is probably the part with the worst UX in Blender

Even just a better manager for quick favourites would be useful- you want to be able to rename, organise, add or remove entries. Any custom list that gets saved in Blender like this should have an editor or manager for it.

This would be amazing.
