NLA: Return to Default Transforms When Disabling Tracks
When an object or armature uses actions disabling their tracks leaves them where they are.
Having their transforms return to their default values when all tracks are disabled would give more consistent results.
A possible way of implementing that function could be to have a hidden/non-editable track with all transforms at default value. That hidden track would be under all of the object's other tracks.

Attached gif shows how it would ideally behave with the only difference being the "CubeDefaultTransforms" strip would be in a hidden/non-editable track.

Just wanted to follow up with this, while I don't know/think this will be added for current Blender it is being talked about for the new Animation system Animation Data block, and now that you are involved a bit more in the meetings and the module if you have some more thoughts on this it could be a good time to bring it up as the new system takes shape.
Is there a problem with the current workaround?
* @GuiltyGhost * only the fact that it's a "workaround". Meaning it's a bit inconvenient, and you have to learn it from somewhere first to use it. Be it through testing, tutorials or forum tips.
If it's the expected behaviour for most, it would be nice if it was the default behaviour instead of having to look for a workaround.
* @Eduardo Rubio * I think I misunderstood back in August. Before I think I was thinking the suggestion was about supporting a default base layer for the NLA system. Given that you can manually create it and would only have to do so once, it didn't seem like an issue ("Is there a problem with the...").
You just meant that when you disable tracks, then the properties, that were affected but are no longer affected by the NLA system, should be reset to default?
