Search field for already used shortcuts
Could be fine to have a search field in 'user preferences -> keymap' in order to verify that the shortcut one want to use is not already used ?

You can use the addon named Is Key Free , bundled with blender. Once installed, open a Text Editor and you should see a "Dev" tab on the left panel.
Doesn't this already exist in 2.8?
* @ludwa.borra * You can do a research by shortcut, but it's not editor / modal sensitive, you can't search for modificator keys like Shift Ctrl, ...
