Add ability to autoselect active object in outliner
When user selects an active object in the 3D view, the selection is not presented in the outliner until the user selects View -> Show Active (or presses the comma key on the numpad) which is counter-intuitive. There should be an option to toggle "Auto-show active" in the outliner.
The option to select "Active" from the drop down in outliner is not the same thing because it shows only the selected model (and its children) and not the whole hierarchy.
EDIT: This seems to be already implemented in 2.80 alpha, so this suggestion can be ignored =)

i'm in blender LTS 3.3 and I like the idea of just having it set on active in the outliner so you're selected object is always visible but that doesn't seem to be working with instance collections
Yes! That's something I always wondered why it doesn't scroll to the selected object. Having to hit the dot key all the time is a real pain. The other option is having it to show only selected in the menu above but sometimes you want to be able to have the rest visible.
A small and minor detail for a major improvement to the outliner.
