AMD Radeon 5500M - Available on Cycle Renders

Hi All,

I’m using Blender for equirectangular image creation and I’m rendering in Cycles.

I can see AMD Radeon 5500M on MacBook 2019 appears to not be compatible with Blender - Do you know if Software updates will be available soon as Cycle and OpenCL can be operational using this GPU ?

Thanks a lot

All the best

there are several topics about this over on devtalk- but the gist is that mac's GL support is out of date because apple wants to funnel developers to Metal. Rather than build and maintain a completely custom branch just for mac (since Metal is only available on that platform), the blender devs have opted to wait for Vulkan's abstraction layer for Metal to be ready for prime time since moving Blender to Vulkan is the next logical step in the evolution of eevee/cycles.

ps: this isn't really the type of conversation RCS is meant for, blenderartists.org is probably a better location for general queries/discussions.

Thanks for your message ;)

Do you have an idea when Vulkan will be ready on Blender ? That will be possible to use my GPU there ? However it looks like Blender can’t read my GPU (at least on the MacOs version) , do you think switching my Mac to Windows for Blender usage could be useful or not ?

AFAIK Blender cannot use hardware render acceleration on macOS according on docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/render/cycles/gpu_rendering.html page
