Submission 'help' to encourage higher quality idea submissions

I think it would be useful to have some helper 'hints' that encourage users to make good quality idea submissions to this site. An example of this can be seen in the attached screenshot which is from the Blender.StackExchange site, which has hints next to the question box, used to try and help users ask better quality questions.

Some suggestions to users could include:

  • Can you include a mockup image in your submission to clearly demonstrate your idea?
  • If your idea is hard to explain then it will be hard to understand for the voters and developers
  • Try and keep your suggestions specific
  • Have you thought about how this new feature might be used by the user and how they will interact with it?

If providing these 'hints' next to the submission box is too difficult then I think a prominently placed link on the homepage (and submission box) could also help, though ideally I think both 'hints' and a help page would be good. The help page could have an example of a 'good' and a 'bad' quality submission along with the previously mentioned tips (including why making a good quality submission is important).

This is a great idea. One question: should these hints only be next to the submission form or should there also be a dedicated page with more a more detailed guide?

I would suggest a similar approach to the stackexchange screenshot, where basic bullet points are provided as hints and a more in depth guide, expanding on those bullet points, is linked to at the bottom of the hint box.
