mirror modifier, add scene option
mirror modifier take as the axis the origin of the object. Or also you can take another object as a ref. But many often you want to mirror an object to the axis of the scene, independendly of its origin location. Would be useful the "scene" ref option, as the same way another object ref option, that already exist.

it's always the same question. Things can be done in several ways, but if appears one that can be more efficiently, why not take it to account? Create an empty is not much work, it's true, but is better to press a single button in the modifiers panel for sure.
What's the advantage of this over just creating an Empty at the world origin and using that as the mirror reference?
Convenience of not caring of (multiple) additional objects. No need to remember on which layer you placed specific empty, which empty control what, etc.
Excellent suggestion. I hate constantly adding emptys to my scenes for doint excactly what you are mentioning.
I like idea but there should be small addition. 3 coordinates of point placement (like those in array modifier). Empty workflow is sometimes cumbersome, I often end up with bunch of empties scattered on my scenes.
Is adding an empty really that much of a hassle? And really, in this case, it's just one single empty located at the scene origin. If multiple objects are mirrored relative to scene, this empty could be reused. There's no need to have a bunch of empties scattered about.
Thing is I'm not talking on one origin for multiple objects. Rather dozens of origins, each for couple objects, placed on rounded coordinates. That's how I make my game assets.
Right, but that's not what this proposal is asking for. It's asking to use the scene origin as the mirror modifier's reference. That's a different use case than yours.
