This seems even more important, than the left vs right click issue.

It's simply replicating the behavior from others areas of Blender. In all modes, shift click is multiple select while Ctrl click is path select.

IMO it should stay the same thing everywhere in Blender. So either the outiliner stays like now, either the whole blender changes accordingly.

Good point for lists. There may be a small caveat for consideration;

In many programs, when you are dealing with objects in a 3D workspace or canvas, shift-select is used for selecting additional, individual objects. Blender is the same. In this case, SHIFT-Click is consistent between lists and the workspace.

I think an option in the Preferences / Settings to change, for lists, between the current way and this proposal would be good though.

That's one thing that I get wrong or right depending of the time of the day 😂. If my mind is in OS mood, then I get it wrong, if I'm in Blender mood then I get it right. That's how selection works on the 3D view and in the other editors, as well as other 3d software. I feel that if you change it in lists you have to change it everywhere else too, maybe as an option
