tags and filters for estimated amount of work

For example :

  • quick task
  • average task
  • long task
  • very long task
  • I don't know

Why I think it would be useful :

While minor requests are more numerous and can be tackled by more developers, major feature ideas are mostly addressed to the Blender Institute or very devoted and skilled developers. Having the ability to filter by size of the task would help developers find the ideas they can work on. Also, this way big ideas that last in the long term wouldn't drown in a pile of smaller ones and become lost by the time the 2.8 milestone is passed and the Blender institute has time for new things. I mean... new-er things.

Example of a major feature request : Cycles bi-directional path tracer Example of a minor feature request : VSE X/Y constrained zoom with mouse drag

Understandable need, but I'm not so sure about the implementation of this feature. Would anyone be able to set these tags or would the site need a moderator role that would go through each proposal and make those marks? If anyone could set the tags, are we assuming that there will be enough knowledgeable people here to make that kind of judgment?

@Jason van Gumster: looks like this idea might become doable soon

@Caetano Veyssières: It does. I'm still not entirely sure about this level of granularity, though. Definitely something to think through.

Sorry to bug You I sign in but how or where do I go to submit my blender request? I am new

jason

There's a Submit button in the upper right side of the site (assuming you're viewing it from a desktop machine... from a phone, there doesn't appear to be a clear way to access the Submit button. That might be a bug.
