Double click to select object and children
Need so bad, many 3d programs have it for a reason. Perhaps with a additional keystroke to select whole hierarchy in both directions (children/parents).

You can go to preferences>keyframes, type 'select grouped', go to object mode (inside the prferences>keyframes), add a command(+), select 'children' and check 'expand', then mouse, and double left clic, make sure to enable it and that's it.
* @Melodicpinpon * GREAT !!! Thanks a lot. But I don't see a possibility to add a command. There are +- on the top for whole keyconfig presets. Where is that damned "+" button for add commands?
* @vangel * You can't find the Add New command button because it's hidden when searching. So you have to erase the search bar, then navigate to 3D View → Object Mode → Object Mode (Global), and then find the Add New button at the end of the list.
In the text field where it is written
none, you can writeobject.select_grouped. Then set the options as * @Melodicpinpon * described. The two bottom ones are greyed out by default, you have to set them manually for them to become active. Result :{attachment 2021-05-12_84jpg}
I miss this too. the current options do not select an entire hiereachy up to an top level item, whatever kind that may be - except collections.
Also, seems it's only for viewport and not the Outliner.
I would be ok with scroll wheel among objects that are related in this way.
Done in v4.1:

What you exactly mind "lower hierarchy"? The object on viewport or outliner?
* @ManBlender * I mean children as lower hierarchy and parents as upper
