Shadow only for Eevee
what happend to that simple (Shadows Only) tickbox in Blender? Is there a simple workaround ?
Can this be re-implemented in Eevee?
I'm sure that for something people do often, they dont want to spend days jumping through hoops fiddling with light catchers, trying to achive what was once so easy.
I am a simple artist with no God level node skills. PLEASE PLEASE make it simple to add shadows in composted scenes.

Yeah, there's actually a simple workaround.
The material requires a two transparent nodes, a Shader Mix Node, and a light path node.
Here's what it looks like:
Light path: Is Shadow Ray________Mix Factor Transparent Node (White)________Top input Transparent Node (Black)______________Bottom input (This can also be accomplished with a diffuse node if you don't need any transparent shadows)
You will need to set transparency to ALPHA CLIP. If you want to use the object as a shadow card, then plug your shadow texture into the black transparent node. I like to use a noise texture here to create interesting shadows (Eevee doesn't support light nodes yet). If you're using transparent shadows, you'll need to set it to CLIP or HASHED.
EDIT: I accidentally used the term "workaround." This is not a workaround, it's just the right way to do it!
I also want to say, the feature we need in EEVEE is control over ray visibility for each object.
