Allow edit of objects that aren't visible in the viewport. (Including batch renaming)

People STILL think that Blender is not suitable for large scale projects, this is part of the problem:

If you think of object accessibility as a bool operation, every method of hiding data adds to an overgrown negative count of accessibility. This is too much for the average user to easily manage in complicated projects. It's a tragedy how our otherwise AWESOME outline has many features ahead of other software except for this one.

And it's very noticeable when you select all your objects in the scene, and batch rename. (Ctrl-F2)

It's a paper-cut because the viewport was always perfectly suited for filtering control by visibility. Having this functionality in the outliner is therefore not only redundant, but adding an unnecessary layer confusion and wasted time. The outliner is NOT a glorified viewport with lists instead of 3D content, it's the bloody outliner, so it should act like an outliner, and making it act like a viewport will confuse the hell out of people who have come from say Modo, where data management is a shining example.

Now picture this, you can select all hidden objects in the scene and although you may not be able to select hidden objects in the viewport, you CAN in the outliner. Do you want to live in a world where life is this easy? We need to switch the status from 'feature' to 'paper-cut', because the ghosts of amateur design must be exorcised.

I noticed you can now select multiple hidden items in the outliner and with the mouse over the outliner; ctrl-f2 allows you to batch rename, so I guess this is solved?
