Auto key Hud

It would be useful to have some indicator when Autokey is active, something more obvious than the tiny icon in the timeline editor (which I hardly ever have open).

Possibly a frame inset around active 3d views, similar to what Right Click Select uses when you put the cursor in the 'content' tab to start typing (this website).

Maybe an even easier way would be to just to turn the 'Editor Outline' color (in Theme Editor) to a customizable color when Auto key is on and return it the default color when autokey is off. Editor outline is the space between views in Blender's UI, for those unfamiliar with theme editing.
