Make object's origin a pivot point in edit mode

Hi, I just wondering why it isn't in blender yet, specially when like me you often use half sphere or even with the mirror and have to scale. Using the 3d cursor is nice but you will work quicker with the origin as a pivot point in edit mode.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking that there are certain edit mode calculations that require having a consistent local origin for reference. So changing the origin while in Edit mode is likely a non-trivial coding task.

Of course, it wouldn't be that hard to write an [ugly] add-on that quickly toggles into Object mode to set the origin and then toggles back, but I'm not quite sure that the repercussions might be for that kind of macro. My guess is that it could wreck havoc on the undo stack.

@Jason van Gumster: I don't think elfwing4fun's proposal is about changing the object's origin while in edit mode, but simply about putting the pivot on it, so I don't see how it could raise any particular difficulty coding-wise.

A script that toggles back and forth between object and edit mode is not going to process very fast on high-poly meshes. But there's no need to do that. We simply need to querry the active object's coordinates.

I'm sure somebody out there already made a script for that.

Correct I don't want to change the origin but use its coordinates. In object mode, rotation and scale are base on it and it should be the same in edit mode.

@elfwing4fun: However, for such an add-on to be bullet-proof, it should take into account delta transforms, constraints and drivers.

@Caetano Veyssières: It's not so complex, just add the origin in the selection of pivot. It's exactly the same thing as the selection of the 3d cursor as pivot but for a particular point, the origin.

Ah... my apologies for misreading. I get it now. Should be pretty easy to add in that case. No object/edit toggle necessary.
