Edit Mode Performance

Edit Mode Operations get slow pretty fast even on a Workstation. Between about 100k -300k polygons it starts to work slowly. Maybe the performance could be tackled at some point. In comparison to some "industry standard" tool edit mode performs poorly at times.

I don't understand enough about Coding to make a proper proposal but as far as I am getting it, Edit Mode is running on CPU, so my question would be if it is multithreaded or not? If it isn't would it be possible to boost the edit mode performance by letting it run on more than one CPU Core somehow?

I tested this with a heavily subdivided Cube at 370k polys and it starts t lag while cpu and gpu are still running under 10% usage

I agree, but "make it faster" isn't a proposal. If you have specific ideas on HOW to make it faster- that's what RCS is for.

Adjusted my description a bit...I am mainly not a coder . I still would like to see edit mode getting faster.

Since Jason van Gumster convinced that my publication is duplicate of this one. I should copy & paste my text here. No more duplicates.

Here is kind of small investigation on Blender Devtalks . I know that lot of people here don't read Devtalks, so I want to share it here and pay attention to this issue.

Shortly - for LMB click response delay has grown from Blender 2.79 1 - 2 frames ( in 60 fps captured video ) to Blender 2.8 6 - 8 frames!!! in best configuration with disabled new features. What cause disgusting work experience - time by time I clicked but don't get any response results.

Well known old issue. Everyone talk about it - main Blender problem is bad performance in high poly. But what exactly you propose?

I find it so interesting when the question posed to an artist is "what do you propose?" as if all artists/submitters are programmers. A problem can exist even if the the submitter doesn't know what a solution might be; after all there are programmers for that.* @IIIFGIII *

* @ingapambi * yes but you have to understand that this is what RCS is about. It's not a void where you shout a vague request and someone magically goes and make the thing. It's a platform for discussing proposals and solutions, not just problems. If you don't understand enough about how to achieve a goal, you don't know enough about the problem and are not able to contribute to the conversation.

Put another way: RCS is a water-cooler discussion between two football fans who know the details of the sport, and posts like this are a third person walking by and saying something vague and irrelevant in an effort to join a conversation they are not equipped to deal with.

* @ingapambi * Perhaps, Blender Devtalk is better place, if you have no actual solution or some vision what & how but you want to bring attention to this theme and maybe discuss it with some real developers.

Good point. Thankyou.* @testure *

True that. It is a good place to possibly gain some knowledge on your subject.* @IIIFGIII *
