Faster .PNG export

I know this is kind of a difficult topic as it has to deal with performance optimization, but with Eevee it really highlights the problem.

Blender has always been slow at saving PNGs, sometimes taking 3 seconds or more to save a single image (even to an SSD). It wasn't a problem when rendering a Cycles animation because a single frame might take 30 minutes to render, so the extra couple of seconds wasn't noticeable.

Now with Eevee being able crank out a frame almost instantly it's REALLY noticeable when the frame renders, but can't start rendering the next frame until after it saves the first one. I want to be able to start using Blender for 2D motion graphics, and it's really frustrating when After Effects can render a 250 frame clip in 3 seconds, and it takes Blender a whole minute just because it's slow at saving the PNGs

Maybe it could be GPU accelerated or multi-threaded, if it isn't already.

Also, a thought occurs to me: could it be that your hard disk is slowing it down?

@Josephbburg: Nope. Saving to an SSD, and as I mentioned After Effects has absolutely no problem saving a 250 frame clip in a matter of seconds to the same drive

* @Josephbburg * In fact, Photoshop is also slow when saving PNG with high compression ratio.

How large are the images that you're saving? I frequently do large renders (thousands of frames) using OpenGL rendering and I've never seen Blender take even as much as a second to save those image files.
