Customizable selected object appearance viewport setting

We likely all know you can change the color of the selected objects, active object, and the width, but there are additional useful selection views.

One that I commonly use in Rhino 3D is Shade selected. In a shaded mode, that allows you to see which parts of the model you have selected are actually visible if they are partially obstructed by other object. Currently I am switching modes to flat with random color in order to see that better, but if I have too many objects sometimes some objects that are obstructing aren't easily identifiable. I had a pink object with a slightly coral pink object in front of it so my first guess what that is was joined.

That's not the only use of being able to do customize the appearance of a selected object. Maybe you want to switch to showing the selected objects using a certain matCap. That could be useful. Maybe you want to shade highlight the object to only show face direction during model inspection. Different workflows may have different ways they would like to see that.

This is why I would like to see the ability to change the appearance of selected objects, also with the ability to have unique appearance settings for each shading method, or link them to be the same if the user prefers. There should be an option to save the preset also, to make it fairly quick to switch between methods.

You can do this already. Set the viewport shading color to Object, then set whatever color you want in the object properties > Viewport Display.

You also can do the same with materials, they have their own viewport display panel.

You can have the color change propagated to a selection by holding down ⎇ Alt and sliding the RGB values (it doesn't seem to work by clicking the color wheel or using the HSV values).
