Ignoring geometry by vertex groups in the Mirror modifier

I have a suggestion for improving the modifier, I have an airplane and it has symmetrical and asymmetric details, a symmetrical element with the reflection modifier turned on, but sometimes I need it to also have asymmetric elements in an unactivated form. Just to implement my idea, you need to add a function that would ignore the elements I need by vertex groups.

I'm curious as to why you wouldn't separate the piece out instead. Is there a reason why it needs to be as one object? You can do something kind of what you are asking for with the symmetrize tool, select what you want to mirror and it'll mirror just that. youtube.com/watch

* @gabe687 * The Mirror modifier is much more convenient to work with than applying symmetry and so on. Also, if you apply a modifier, the file size increases, which is not always ok. I do not think that this feature is difficult to implement, if I knew python, I would have implemented it myself ...

Thanks to geometric nodes you can say I got what I wanted prnt.sc/1w4jhbf

There is no point to have both in one mesh in this case. But yes, it may be useful with some procedural models.

* @ Vyacheslav * AFAIK in procedural workflow you can use Weld modifier to add separate object to your mirrored one
