Ask for Editor type upon splitting panel
Most of the time when you are splitting a panel, it is most likely you want to change to another editor, so what if it directly ask which editor you want when you click to split screen?

That depends... I often split the window to have a new view of the 3D View to work on a model, so, this idea would be more disturbing for me to work than useful... Though, I wouldn't mind if this feature is added as something which can be disabled in the user preferences.
