Add Ability to Change Viewport Playback Speed
It is convenient for studying your animations to be able to playback the animation slower or faster than realtime. With python it is easy to modify playback to run slower but not faster unless problematic methods are used. Right now to change the playback speed in the viewport, with either Python or builtin UI tools, you have to change the Time Remapping. This causes problems because this also changes the Remapping for the final render. It's painful to check your rendered animation after hours or days of rendering to find out you forgot to change back to full speed in the Time Remapping panel of the output tab.
The UI control for this could either be to the right of the transport controls Timeline or under the Time Remapping controls and labeled as "Viewport Speed %".
I would personally like to at least have access to this in python as per the conversion in the industry compatible keymap task here .

This can be cool only to visualise in slow motion some element while you don't want to remap everything because some are done with simple keyframes, some are done with modifier keyframe, somes others are done with animation node, and it can be hard to sync them all.
Out of curiosity, why not just change the framerate in Output Properties?
* @Jason van Gumster * Again, this is really for decoupling the viewport playback speed with the output speed. The purpose is for previewing the animation at a different rate than realtime, without having to remember to have to change it back to full speed before outputting the animation.
I use JKL shortcuts similar to video editors like Avid and Premiere on my personal projects - J plays backwards, K pauses and L plays forward. While playing forward, you can press L again to speed up the playback or J to slow it down. There's been some interest shown in using this setup in the Industry Compatible Keymap that will ship with Blender. The issue with doing this is that presently, the only way to change vieport and VSE playback speed is to change Time Remapping settings. Changing the frame rate, would make the animation play at the same speed, but less frames per minute.
* @dpdpforlife * Maybe the right place for this in the UI would be near the settings for defining a preview range in the timeline. This would be a preview framerate. Neither get used for render, but are used while working within the file.
