Particles/physics: Attenuate conservation of momentum / inertia
Hi,
It appears that Blender always applies 100% of particle velocity from the previous frame. I don't see any way to attenuate the conservation of momentum for particles. This is absolutely necessary to fully control particle motion. Maya has a particle attribute called "Conserve" which allows artists to dial down the inheritance of particle velocity from the previous frame/substep. This is critical to proper art direction of particle motion, especially with fields.
Perfect Newtonian conservation of energy is great until it is not. Please add a "Conserve" factor allowing artists to reduce or eliminate the inertia of particles. That way we can, for example, completely control particle motion with fields and goals.
Please don't tell me "it's physically accurate". Physical accuracy is a blessing and a curse. It's great unless the artist can't bend or break the laws of physics. In the computer, we theoretically have infinite power. Please don't limit that power to phenomena that can only occur in the real world.
Thank you

What is the difference between this and the "Drag" or "Damp" settings?
