"Origin to Bounding Box" Actions

Since i work with 3d printing, i’d also love a standard option to “set origin to the center of (+Z/-Z/+X/-X/+Y/-Y) bounding box face” or maybe a sub menu like

  • Set origin to Bounding box side
    • Front (Y)
    • Back (Y)
    • Left (X)
    • Right (X)
    • Up (Z)
    • Down (Z)

with the necessary corrections based on the axis letter chosen in the options).

You see, 3d scans and even some sculpts normally have a lot of uneven faces and volumes, even if you used "Select Linked Flat Faces" and got all the "bottom" of the sculpt, Put cursor to selected (it'd go to the center of the are of such faces) and THEN origin to 3d cursor. You'd nail the Z position, but X and Y would still be a bit off target.

Even to "center" assets for games an option like that would be useful, in my opinion. Origin to Volume is very situational and normally you don't want part of your object below the scene origin just to "dig" it back to "ground level" with more grabs and edits.

Hi

I did not know about this entry but see my add-on. I already implemeted this. And there is an interactive mode too.

blenderartists.org/t/originie-teleport-the-pivot-with-magic-a-feature-packed-pivot-master-add-on/

It offers bunch of other pivot actions. My Modo-Me addon also has a basic version of this, though it wont move the origin.

It is much faster to make your own setup with drivers: just align Box to your object and drive scale from sizes. Then you can easily align cursor at any of 8 corners or 6 centers of box {attachment 020224jpg}
