Much needed enhancements for the Outliner.
Coming from other DCC background, heavy use of the outliner or object tree is paramount in any workflow. But in Blender as you may know, even simple selection from the outliner is counter-intuitive and a huge pain.
- You can't drag/multi-select objects or select everything between e.g.
- Can't navigate using keyboard, arrows still affect timeline, or rename elements using Return or double click.
- Unselected objects remain highlighted / disassociation between highlight and selection;
- Highlight in outliner != selection, if I press A in outliner, all objects are highlighted but not all are selected.
- You can't select while in Edit mode.
- Can't drag to unparent.
- No many contextual actions, like Join, Copy, Duplicate, Export....
- Etc. etc.
In short the outliner is completely confusing, detached from the workflow and lacks a great deal of interactivity, it acts more like just a passive viewer of the scene and that's it.
Please consider doing something about this, it could use some much needed attention. Thanks.

Awesome, does that mean it is a part of the official plan? @TheRedWaxPolice:
@wondraknathan: Yes, the plan is official...
@TheRedWaxPolice: Yes!!!! Thanks for letting me know!
I agree and many others on Blender's devtalk do too, Here is my post on it months ago ( devtalk.blender.org/t/blender-ui-paper-cuts/2596/259 .) and others made a similar post and they always get about 20 likes (which is about as high as it gets there)... yet nothing has been done! I agree this should take priority, or at very least use some polish before the official version is released.
I totally agree. To me the outliner is one of the most important organizational tools in blender. Hope this gets some love.
This isn't a proposal. Try to re-word this into a specific action plan.
This reads as a series of complaints rather than any specific proposal for improvement. This site is for suggesting improvements to Blender.
My guess is that you have a number of specific things you'd like to improve in the Outliner. I would suggest that you make a specific proposal for each one so they can be addressed, discussed, voted, and acted upon individually.
