Add a default shortcut for node.add_search

With the focus on nodes moving forward - as well as the number of nodes currently available - it would make sense to standardize a default shortcut for node.add_search .

There are several benefits to the community:

  • Searching for nodes is a lot faster than browsing. Whether the users save the step of moving the mouse to click search or browsing the list, they can save time. Making a default shortcut can help 'advertise' the functionality.
  • Blender educational content can use search more quickly without using custom shortcut keys

and less important for everyone else, but important for me:

  • I won't have to keep re-creating my shortcut every time I run a new release of Blender . ;)

I propose Ctrl A or Ctrl Shift A as they are closely related to the default for wm.call_menu

You can right-click the search field/button and assign a custom shortcut to it.

Hello,

I too was looking for a faster way to enter search. I had been using Shift-A, and then manually selecting "Search" with my mouse. The F3 key confused me so I ignore it, but I saw videos where people seemed to go right to search. I then found that hitting Shift-A, S does the trick. All those times I manually selected "Search," and I never noticed that the "S" is underlined.

So, Shift-A then S. Your finger is right there on the "A," just slide right.

I haven't tried that. With my mechanical keyboard, it is a little finicky as the A key is not lifting before I've slide to the S key. While being a minor addition, it is still an extra keypress.

With F3 being too far to reach from my resting position - 🎻- but more importantly not context aware , it takes more typing and mental cycles to locate the item.

I am learning some search features I didn't know existed. For example, it allows for fuzzy search, like node.add_search , gp will pull Geometry Proximity directly to the top...
