Action record and playback panel - like in photoshop
would be a great tool for automation and repeated actions..
Ex. modeling 3 sided polygon meshes, steps: 1. select the verts 2. extrude 3. offset and confirm 4. merge at center
now if you record seps (2,3 and 4) and assign this to a shortut you could model much faster
In the panel you can have a list with different actions that you record and rename and assign a customs shortcut, next to the action you can have a button for assigning the shortcut .
i think it can be a global panel... it just records the button pres of the mouse pointer and it can automate a certain sequence of steps and record the mouse input if needed...
actions should be easily organised like "action collections" something along those lines...
An action could trigger another action and make chains if needed
Maybe a way to export/import them so other users could use them, they can become an asset like a material or an adon. it opens up many possibilities
I personally don't have other examples at the moment but i'm sure many can see the potential of having something like this improving the workflow and productivity

Came here across the same idea :) Would be great.. it will of some sort of alternative way of working with duplicated instances.. but another way, and more flexible and widely. And will be great to see it in Blender. [for example I see it how we can put here some bunch of small operations like attach pivot point to any side of object, and more complex.. and it will speed up whole working process a lot :)]
You have addons to make that actually
@Craig Jones:
github.com/dairin0d/macros-recorder
@alberto3d.1984: That's an interesting addon. Thanks for sharing. I would tinker with it and see if we can do something better like what @Craig Jones has requested.
