Shaders: Add a Color Mix mode that preserves value
If you try to use a color mix node to tint a colour A with colour B, it appears to move the hue 'slider' of A towards B, but this doesn't factor in that pure yellow is seen as much brighter than pure blue, even when both technically have a Value of 1. In the example all colours become pure blue as factor is raised because they all have saturation and value of 1.
I'd like to procedurally add some random hue variation in a shader but doing so also alters the perceived brightness of the material in an undesirable way.
As an example of what I'd like to be added, this is photoshop's Color layer mode which keeps brightness intact

There are at least 2 addons that do the color brightness compensation you describe but only for lights. However they do it in the nodes of the light so perhaps there is a node group in these addons that you can use for your needs. However I fear that without the ability to plug colors into the color ramp it will not be pleasant to use.
