Outliner - Hide: additional version of / without zoom
This is exactly like what / does (which I love) but, this would omit the zoom in.
So I don't mean replacing / because for modeling, the zoom aspect of isolating is awesome.
This would just be an additional method that doesn't zoom. Maybe ALT /
Also as an alternate way of doing this would be in the outliner. Like Photoshop's layers palette. When you ALT click an eye icon, it isolates that layer, hiding all the layers you had visible before you isolated. ALT click again and the previously visible layers are shown again.

You can disable zoom for viewport local view, search for "local view" in keymap and uncheck "frame selected": i.imgur.com/YdasC5T.png
There is also isolate command in outliner, but it only works for collections and not bound to any key by default. You can bind it to / with right click -> assign shortcut: i.imgur.com/jvuS2DE.png
Sounds like a good idea, I am not sure why the / , by the way it is called Local View in Blender, isolates and zooms in, even though there is a separate hotkey to zoom in.
