Option to draw volume that represent camera frustum in the viewport
This feature adds an option to draw a volume that represent the camera frustum in the view-port.It can be used to visualize what is the frustum of a camera, and what objects are in the frustum of this camera. The UI is in the camera panel, behind show limits.See patch: developer.blender.org/D1828

I am not sure if the colour fill is needed.. only bigger start and end clipping planes would be enough I think.. Also the focus point is not scaling up even if camera is scaled.
Something like the lamp "show cone" feature would be useful to see occlusions or foreground objects passing into or near the camera frustrum. When you just scale up the camera object in 3D view all you get is the edge lines making it hard to know if something is encroaching.
I agree however that having the image surface illuminated might not be necessary.
Although it could have it's uses. I know that stereo camera has similar viewing possibility and it was really useful for that, so maybe it is also with just normal camera.
One thing I'm not sure of is - how common is to to place the camera outside the camera view?
Placing the camera outside of camera view is great for rough positioning (I do it all the time). This would be super helpful.
Yes I find that animating the camera along a path I need to visualize the image area from afar, sometimes its hard to tell where the camera is pointing in a very large scene.
Oh, I've wanted this many times before. would be great..
You can just scale the camera object but I agree that a lamp type cone would be helpful.
You don't have to scale the camera, theres a draw-size option (but this also makes the triangle at the top really huge :S ).
