Display duplicate object names without actually having duplicate object names in the system.
Blender's system requires everything to have a uniqe name. For example if I have 2 cars in a scene I can't have 2 objects named "hood". One of them will be automatically changed to "hood.001". And if I have a hooded character in the scene the hood part of their hoodie jacket would be changed to "hood.003".
I propose that if your object name starts with the character "^" it will be displayed only with the characters that come after the "^" but the actual name will inherit the name of the parent object.
So you can have an Empty named "ToyotaCar.002" and rename one of its children to "^hood" and it would actually be named in the system as "ToyotaCar.002 hood" but it would display in the Outliner as simply "^ hood"

Maybe this should be as standard by option without ^, or..
A. I think the problem is other around. Eg. name ToyotaCar.001 is changed, and You have riging, armature, bone.. this names are not changed and require manualy to have some standard. I believe that rename based on ID and this preventing conflict, but prefix, should be ID for subfix to rename pararelly (coz easy to have similar names). Why? Then we can maybe have path for object like in coding, eg.
Why this way? Coz in my opinion prefix as . dot is stupid now and limiting (in fact in names not), should be _ as default not dot.
B. Dot shoud be reserved like in python language for objects path. Only _ as prefix Many problems can be resolded due taht around API. Blender can work more fast (Exclude strings as "" in cpp). Operate on tree in inputs with doth pats can be available more naturaly. Don't have knowledge how depthly ID touching problem, but probably this same name is not problem for blender engine, more for user. Implementation to replace . for _ can be easy for contiunue versions.
C. In other feature request I suggest to add columns relations based on ID like on Project manager, to offer move object on outliner (by numbers as cell). What if the name will be moved betewen parents many times (I like this on Sketchup)? On some cases not have sense in future to add old subfix. It's like new function Parent relative
D. I think that procedure for rename can be other. Eg.

I thinking about "linked names" forever for elements in tree of object and renaming process for all similar object if exist "dot", eg.
"hood.001". "hood.002". "hood.003".
Doing range selection on objects in outliner names (shift + LMB) and renaming these 3.
"hooder.001". "hooder.002". "hooder003".
And looks that boths case can be done by some add-on Object name-driven names for mesh datablocks
