Trackball Orbit Improvement for Sculptors.

I am challenged as a 3d blender sculptor with the current orbit and pan modes (Turntable vs Trackball)

Turntable is easier to control and predictable in a productive way, however some brush strokes are easier done at a certain angle within the Viewer's Y-Axis (given that the X runs horizontally and Z runs Vertically) in order to have the arm and wrist move naturally to achieve the arcs needed. Having that done, improves the accuracy and productivity of any sculptor compared to using all other techniques including the Stabilized Stroke or Curve methods.

Current Practical Challenge: When Middle Click on the object + Left to Right movement, the object turns predictably and rotates, and same with the Up / Down movement. However, to rotate the object's view around the Y-Axis the user needs to Middle-Click away from the center of the object to create a rotation, and when the rotation starts, it Pivots around the Clicked Location (If orbit around selection is not checked) This forces the sculptor to activate the Orbit around selection which does not allow for rotating around a certain point instead around the whole sculpt.

Accordingly, any sculptor finds the Trackball mode useless although it is the Perfect orbiting mode for digital sculptors.

A good example for properly implemented Trackball orbiting is the iPad app (Nomad). The app allows the user to rotate the object in the Y-Axis (In this case it's rotating the view) both clockwise and anti-clockwise using 2 fingers. I found this to be exceedingly fast and easy for me to sculpt the arcs and lines I need with precision and I advise the reader to try the Trackball rotation mode so as to experience its use (It can be activated under the Camera Menu > Rotation).

My Suggested changes: 1- Trackball needs to be View Based rather than Axial based, with pivot point in the Center of the 3D workspace. 2- Adding an ALT+Shift to Rotate/Roll the view around the Y-Axis which is the center of the 3D window while locking rotation to all other axis. 3- Adding a quick shortcut button to swap between Trackball and Turntable orbiting modes

As for the following they need to remain as is: 1- Turning remains as is using Middle Click - Left/Right/Up/Down for turning the object 2- Shift + Directions remain as is to Pan the view 3- Control + Up/Down remain as is to Dolly in/Zoom

I hope you find this a constructive suggestion, and if you're a sculptor like me please vote this up if you agree on my suggestion.
