Ctrl+Click on 'shade smooth' to turn on "Auto-smooth" with 30 degree angle.

It is very frustrating that for every single object, I first click on shade smooth and then go to mesh properties and select "Auto smooth". Also "Shift+Click" to apply Auto-smooth with 60 degree.

There is a patch to make it a property of the Shade Smooth operator developer.blender.org/D14894

Marking this as done !

The Shift+Click feature is not implemented (I feel it's a bit random) but you can tweak the angle from the Adjust Last Operation panel.

Maybe in general "stuff together" all things to do with Smoothing, also for the novice to find everything in one place.

Maybe autosmooth just should be an option for shading smooth?

I think this is the way to go. Made a patch for it: developer.blender.org/D14894

Wow! just tested latest builds - this new option works like a charm! TY! only i cant understand why it needs tow separate commands in righ click menu "shade smooth" and "auto shade smooth" with exactly same setting. Are there any logic i miss behind this?

So, a UI tweak to optimize a frequented task. I don't agree with crtl+clicking the shadesmooth, because it's not discoverable or conventional.

Brainstorming more ways to speed this task: Make autosmooth default? Make that a user option? Find more places to put a auto-smooth toggle, put it in the 3d menu, but do the same for other mesh object data options? Make your own plugin to do this?

Wait what? What if I don't want the autosmooth enabled but I still want smooth shading?
