Shrinkwrap Bone Constraint tiny upgrade: Allow Negative values for its Distance Property (so it can match Shrinkwrap Modifier, which CAN have Negative values!).
Hello, fellow Blenderers!
Yes, a small addition I know. But this is fundamental configuration.
I see no current reason to limit the Shrinkwrapping feature, from the Bone Constraint's department.
With the Negative values available for that "Distance" (in the case of the Bone Constraint) or "Offset" (in the case of the Object Modiifer) Property, we are not dependent simply on the Normal Orientation of Faces of a Target Mesh Object; this is the case currently of the Shrinkwrap Modifier (screenshot below):
But, when it comes to Shrinkwrap Bone Constraint, this feature seems to be limited currently; it's not consistent in the perspective of Rigging, where matching the Distance/Offset feature would be required (without having to Duplicate a Target Mesh Object just to have Flipped Normals...). The screenshot below is just to ilustrate (that the value there can't be Negative for some unknown reason...)
Furthermore (just to mention) I know one 'secret' trick which seems only to be achievable, with Double Shrinkwrap Modifiers, because of the possibility of a Negative value in their Offset Property. Basically, by 'Inverting' the Offsets (employing Negative values) on a Snap Mode Inside and on a Snap Mode Outside (see screenshot), we can create an 'invisible box-wall', in which the Mesh will ONLY start 'Crushing-Shrinkwrapping' itself, on the outer and inner limits, if it touches them (but not if it stays exactly in-between (in the interior of) that invisibible box/cage/volume); but the Target Mesh Object employed would be exactly the same. In the screenshot, I've ilustrated this ('cheating'), with a Solidified (on both Directions) Mesh Object, so that you can visualize more or less what the shape of such invisible box/cage/volume would look like. Of course, we can't reproduce this, at least not in this way with the Shrinkwrap Bone Constraint, also because it doesn't contain the Negative values for its Distance Property.
We're losing fairly a lot, while this remains non-implemented, isn't it? But remember, the main reason I'm asking this, is, first of all, to be able to match, spontaneously, the Shrinkwrap Bone Constraint with the Shrinkwrap Modifier; secondly, then, there would be more advanced tricks, which only playing with Negative values for Distance/Offset would allow as a gift.
EDIT: Technically, I think I see why a Distance Property cannot be Negative, while an Offset Property can? So, by just exchanging the Distance Property of the Shrinkwrap Bone Constraint for an Offset Property (as in the Shrinkwrap Modifier) would simply improve the feature without any drawbacks?
Thanks for the attention!
