The Instancing Verts/Face feature should be a modifier instead.
The way it works currently the control is in the last place I'd think to look.
I have to make duplicates of the sphere to get one object instanced on the verts and a different object instanced on the faces.
I have to make the small sphere a child of the main sphere but it would make more sense to me if it was the child of the wireframe and I had a vertex group of only the desired parts of the wireframe where I wanted the small sphere to appear (I don't want the upper and lower pole and first ring)
If this worked like modifiers I wouldn't have to parent anything to anything or duplicate anything.
Yes I could probably achieve this with a particle system but there are so many complex or irrelevant settings involved in setting up even the simplest particle system.
It would be user friendly and consistent to move this easy to use feature over to modifiers and make it slighly more flexible.

Agree, the discoverability of this feature is very low. Something like a "vertex instance" modifier would make a lot more sense.
Cool, but I'm afraid it couldn't use instances. It would probably create mesh data (as array modifier does), which is good if you use other modifiers on top of that, but it's bad for memory/performances
* @ Lsscpp * There have been requests for an array modifier or placement tool that works with instances.
