Importing x (DirectX) Files is Almost Complete (Blender is Missing Upstream Changes)

limemidolin and I did some more work on this issue by forking littleneo's version (he isn't available or isn't accepting pull requests). It technically works with 2.79 now but I can't get certain x files to import. Assist if possible: github.com/poikilos/io_import_x See example x file and screenshot of error at: github.com/limemidolin/directX_blender/pull/1

The one on the Blender repo is missing changes from upstream (and our improvements)! I found a copy on git.blender.org/gitweb/gitweb.cgi/blender-addons-contrib.git/tree (and on svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-extensions/contrib/py/scripts/addons/io_directx_bel/ , which I didn't compare with upstream) that is broken. Some of the code is changed to collections ( bpy.context.collection , bpy.data.collections ) instead of groups and scenes, but it doesn't install on Blender 2.80 nightly from yesterday. Also, its bel/ image.py is missing the check for premultiplied alpha from the upstream 2013 version. The version on the Blender repo also still uses bpy.types.TOPBAR_MT_file_import instead of bpy.types.INFO_MT_file_import introduced around 2.6 and which has been fixed upstream (littleneo and later forks on GitHub). Can anyone explain this? Please don't disregard the plugin: The fact that x is deprecated means that import is more important to maintain than export. Many older games and continuing public licensed games like Minetest still have some files in x format (left over from the trueSpace era). I've also seen models on open content libraries (or paid content libraries) in x format. If anyone knows how to reach Jerome Mahieux (littleneo), let me know. His old website contact form is down (tries to use CAPTCHA v1 and fails since it is deprecated cloud technology). I tried the e-mail address in one of his init .py files from <=2013 and didn't hear back yet.
