Maybe it does it if you double click on the object rather then every time you select an object.
So, you select some object in the 3d viewport and the outliner scroll's/jumps to that object in the list? YES PLEASE

Can you describe, when it is useful to see outliner info each time? What kind of info do you want to know everytime, you are clicking object?
Also, it should be only option (switched off by default). Because list-jumping will defocus me from work
