Improve vanilla retopology tools
Another essential part of Blender seems to be outdated. While retopo is technically possible, it's severely lacking. If this were added/ improved I think blender would be a huge step closer to becoming industry standard for modeling.
Ideally the tool would work like the quad draw from Maya but with improvements.
• once snap to mesh is enabled (what ever that's called), being able to start making points and filling in with tris or quads easily
- also, once the process starts, the toggle to easily view the retopo over the base mesh should turn on so we can see what we're doing easily.
• being able to add cuts similar to a basic version of the knife tool
• being able to extrude full edges regardless of how many quads make them up
• being able to cut in/ add loops
• being able to relax the new topo
• being able to select and tweak in a brush like manner.
• being able to have symmetry with center axis snapping/ merging.
All this could probably be done with two tools and modifier keys. A poly pencil and a poly grabber so to speak.
The last thing worth noting is that all this should be possible to stop part way through the process, save progress close blender and pick up where we left off at a later date.
If we could add this kind of functionality in Blender, I know it'd be a huge power up even though it doesn't really sound very exciting.
