USD Stages and references
One of the main benefits of USD is to be able to use stages and view objects in all sorts of applications. Right now blender can import and export USD files, which is great, but we can not currently work with USD the "USD way", meaning to load and view and edit a USD file directly from disk instead of importing it to the blender scene.
Is this something that is in development??
AMD has made an addon that achieves this, but something like a set of geometry nodes that can handle this built into blender would be really great to actually enable "real" usd support and workflows. :)

This is especially important after GDC, where it has become clear that small, medium and large teams, from both Film and Games, world-wide, are employing USD as a primary interchange framework. It allows each studio to hire anyone with modeling, sculpting, materials, texturing, lighting, procedural, and compositing skills, regardless of the DCC preferences, which widens the possibilities of employment for those familiar with Blender... if only it had native functionality for viewing and editing USD stages, layers and prims with the ability to develop variants in real-time, without importing or exporting.
