Infinite undos
Just why not?
Working in Maya is so much easier because of this. I can try a way i never tried before to do something, and if i fail i can just revert it 500 times to the point from where i started.
Saving frequently is a solution, but it's very annoying to save all the time and overall, 256 steps isn't that much actually...
Is this really some unchangeable thing that cannot be possibly made by experienced developers?

This is a MAYOR issue when sculpting or weight painting as every single stroke counts as a change meaning that the 256 mostly only lets you revert one or two minutes into the past.
Blender Team, please uncap this value!
Hi there, I'm learning blender's source code and successfully enlarges the undo limit. Here's an addon I made: github.com/piggestpig/Blender-Undo-Master With current source code, blender can hold as many as 32767 undo steps. I hope developers can increase the default 256 limit to some extent.
definitely i would love to see this implemented in blender
yeah, undo system is still very primitive in Blender. I think they have to totally rewrite it and I think it should be top priority.
Imagine having a history panel/editor :')

What are your specs? After like a year of renstalling maya over and over it finally worked yesterday. I can undo about 25 times and then it crashes
Complain to Autodesk x) Undo history doesn't require much hardware, I had no issue using it on a 15 years old low grade laptop
I hope it's not a hardcoded limitation, but damn never felt I was missing this
You could try to change that UI value limit and check if it works with more steps.

Go to Edit->Preferences->System->Memory & Limits->Undo Steps and increase it (default is 32, so you can undo up to 32 actions)
