Update source asset from a working file

Figure this out: we have a working file and we have the asset library file. I really would like to tweak and fix and improve an asset in the working file and be able to save it to the original library location without having to open, copy and resave the source library file.

Most of the time a material is tweaked "on the field" of a blender project and having to locate and open and copy the updated asset to the file library is not the fastest way.

What do you think ?

This is covered in the manual, see Asset Libraries -> Cross Blend-File Editing . Not to say this feature wouldn't be useful, just to give an explanation why it's not there (well, plus somebody would have to actually implement it :) ).

The way I currently work; To edit an asset, you can right-click on it in the asset browser to open the associated file. Edit it there, save the file and close it. Then reload the linked library in the working file. This last step is annoying and I proposed a solution for it here: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/3yp4/

I do agree that it would be very nice to have an option to propagate overrides to the original asset right from a working file . It might be good to edit your proposal to make it more concrete and in more typical Blender terms developers can easier understand what functionality is needed (hint in bold).

That's exactly what I mean.
