Middle Mouse needs love

Navigation is one of those crucial foundational things and Blender’s middle mouse is unique and really fast but has never been as complete as other software. (Also inconsistent, why is alt snapping the view when Ctrl is snapping for everything else? Not to mention all other programs use shift for snapping, but I will ignore those for sake of moving on.)

So after clicking down Middle mouse Alt is the only modifier that does anything. Can we add rolling to Ctrl for the 2D artist, and slower movement mode to shift just for consistency. I have seen both of those requested before but let me know if you think else.

Alt already takes care of all the angles on the the numpad so Double Middle Mouse can easily replace the rest of the numpad functions. Standard Double can replace show active and feels 100 times more intuitive. Hold shift to get the similar but more powerful Local view (I heard this requested too). Ctrl replaces perspective and Alt can replace Camera View. Thoughts?

Ctrl and shift modifier keys are ok for me, but I find hard to see the usefullness of the MMB doubleclick part

@Lsscpp: Yeah, those double clicks are amazing (they could actually replace tab and full screen but that's a different set up). Rolling is the grease and 2D, and slow mode I don't know, it could probably be more useful but it is everywhere else so its more about making things consistent.

I do like the idea of using the mmb more.
