Blur node in Material shading
This would be amazing for combining any color data. And since it already in the image editor, it should be easy to implement

"should be easy to implement", feel free to enlighten us with these easy details then :)
to clarify, I need a blur node like a flower needs rain- but to suggest that it's "easy" is ridiculous. If you had more implementation details in your proposal you'd have my upvote since I would also like this feature, but a 'wishing well' item will never get past the sniff test around here.
The problem here is that the render engine needs each ray to hit a material at a single point, and for that point to have a deterministic color. With your suggestion, each color calculation would have to also calculate all surrounding pixels before applying the blur. Maybe it could be added as an option for bakes only.
How do you know it's easy? Please be specific and don't write something like that. Otherwise please do it yourself!
I really like the idea, please write more about it sir
