2D production in Blender still lacks a stable pipeline Grease Pencil + VSE

I’m attempting to produce a pure 2D series in Blender using Grease Pencil and the Video Sequence Editor (not a hybrid 3D workflow).

Grease Pencil has been in its modern form for roughly 8 years (blender devs taking it seriously) , yet key aspects of long-form 2D production still feel unstable or incomplete:

Grease Pencil rigging and animation

Inconsistent tooling and fragile setups

Difficulty maintaining reliable rigs across versions

VSE for 2D editing and sound + effects + modifiers

Audio and strip behavior that changes or regresses between releases

No dependable, 2D-focused editorial workflow for long projects

Pipeline stability

Frequent changes that break established workflows

Lack of a clearly communicated roadmap for 2D production specifically

This is not about a single missing feature. The core issue is that the 2D pipeline is not dependable enough for long-term projects, which makes committing to Blender for serialized 2D work risky.
