Ability to save, export and import preferences. WITH MORE

Hello everyone. I am new to the world of blender in terms of active use but I have been toying with it for a few years now. I do however have experience using other modeling and rendering software like Maya, C4D, Alias, Rhinoceros, Fusion 360, Keyshot, Maxwell, Vred, Vray, Sketchup and some more and this feature I would like to propose comes from my use of Alias.

In Alias, I am able to save my workspace and preferences as a Pref Set and keep it on my google drive so if I were to ever need it when I'm away from my own computer, I could just download it and get a more familiar workspace and settings instantly.

Currently, at my job where I use Alias regularly, I keep updating my preferences and keed adding my own shortcuts and changing the workspace as required. I also have multiple pref sets that I can switch between for different kinds of tasks. And when the time comes to work on my home PC, I can just take the updated file from my drive and instantly have the updated workspace and settings at home.

Recently when working on my showreel in Blender, I realised that I had to set up certain preferences, again and again, every time I opened a new blender file. If there was a way to at least export certain preferences so that they can be imported every time, that would be of great help. For example, I like to set my render tile size to 256 as I use GPU rendering and larger tile sizes reduce render time but every time I open a new blender file to start another project I have to keep referring the other project file to see what gives me the result I want. Now it would be okay if it was just tile sizes I needed to change every time but its a lot more and sometimes I forget to change a particular value and I have to spend quite some time finding the issue if it's not already apparent. Even then I also might need re-rendering of a shot that took 3 hours to render. This all could be easily avoided.

Thus I propose not only user preferences stay changed but even some other parameters. At least a new feature to allow the creation, import and export of a pref set that can help reduce the time taken to confirm that all settings are as needed. Just import the preference set and get to work.

If you face similar issues or agree with being able to save a preference set, please consider supporting this request.

you just need to save your startup file after you have set up your preferences and parameters. Next you can go to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender(Blender version) and you can copy both scripts and config so you can save the changes you made inside blender

Current Solution: Sign in to blender cloud and you can sign to other system with same preferences
